Most of the older farmalls only had it as an option, I believe the power units, (engine and clutch only, to power remote equipment), had it as standard equip. thus having the location to put it. If you look on the left side, (as sitting on the tractor), of the oil pan there should be two valves, one a little higher than the other, this is where you check the oil level, you may even find a sticker there or the outline or remains of one, this noted the oil level.
As for rebuilding the engine, if you're somewhat mechanically inclined, it's a peice of cake, but to do a proper job you have to split the tractor.
