Earlier D335 cranks had the groove along with a felt seal. Not sure when they changed over. Many people have learned the hard way when replacing with a regular seal and it leaks like a sieve.
Of course 335 = 4.4 inch, 350 = 4.5 inch. In most cases a casting code on block will date it and tell what it was originally.
