I was mowing today with my Super A and the battery blew up!!!! First the fool and idiot part - I bought a battery box about a year ago and never put in on. By the grace of GOD I did not get any acid in my eyes (I was looking the other way). Now the question. I have had my A about four years. When I bought it the battery was not in it and the generator was not hooked up. The previous owner started it with the crank, not bad for a man in his 80's. I cleaned and oiled the starter, and generator, put on a belt replaced the wireing harness put in a new 6 volt battery, and low and behold the system worked great. About a month ago there was not enough juice in the battery to turn the tractor over. The guage would show a charge when the dial was turned to charge, and the tractor was running. Being short of time, I just would start with the crank, no problem until today. I did not have the system turned on to charge, did not hit a bump to short the battery, it just blew. Quite loudly. WHAT HAPPENED ? The system is all orginal with a magneto. I guess I will search the arcives and look to converting to 12 volts. I would like to keep a generator (orginal looks), can my generator be converted to 12 volts? Thanks in advance to all who try and help this foolo/idiot. To all others if you do not have a battery box get one and put it on!
