There are two 9 series axle housings. There is one that can be seen on all W-9's and most I-9's. The alternate housing has a boss and bolt pattern for a direct mounted winch such as used on tracked vehicles. I don't think that most people notice the difference even when two 9 series are parked together. If you have something truly unusual, you should post a picture. Heck, post one anyway.
I only have a W-9 book and the alternate housing is not listed. I-9 book should have it.
I have two I-9s and one 650. They all have the same axle housing.
ID plate is attached to front gas tank mount. It can be seen from the right side. I bet it is still there but obscured with grime.
