Jon, I was just looking at the service manual for my 300U, decided to look and see if there was special torque for those on my tractor and there aren't. The following values are listed as standard torques in the engine manual section, should work for your 400: thread size torque 1/4 --- 7 ft lb 5/16 --14 3/8 --- 24 7/16 -- 38 1/2 --- 60 I know they aren't bigger than that. BTW the proper clearance is .017 set hot. But don't start the tractor the first time unless you have at least some clearance cold. when you grind valves, you reduce the clearance, and if you have no clearance, the valve may not be closing, and you could burn a valve. Make a note of what torque you used, because you will need it again when you retorque the headbolts after running it for a few hours.
