Both, Have installed pistons with small pins in engines that came with big pins. Used the adapter bushings and they used to be about $10 each from IH. Then they still need finish sized. Don't know what they are now, some aftermarket engine suppliers were selling them also. Can't remember all numbers so I looked the pin size up in a book I have. Engine serial # break for big to small pin on C169 engines could be found on line in IH parts look up. Part book will have notes at bottom of page telling when adapter bushings are needed with a piston sleeve set. Don't think there in the case IH on line parts look up.
