When mine went out it sounded like the entire transmission came apart. I felt it in my feet. It would run fine for a few minutes and then go back to the awful grinding sound. Ive heard a whiring sound sort of like the PTO is engaged in all three of our Super Cs before. I think that its just that over the years the gap in the bevel gear has opened up just a little. Ive never went to the trouble to adjust it. It seems like a pretty big ordeal unless your doing a complete trans. overhaul.
