I think that washer you mention will tell the tale as I think it has to fit between the flat side of the gear and the inner bearing, if that's where it goes--this thing has been apart a long time, and that is one part I had forgotton about. I'll look tomorrow, don't want to put it together find out that the gears aren't lined up, and risk ruining the seal by having to take it apart again.
