Without float and with the lock pins installed in the hitch it will stay at whatever height you move it to. With float you can move the valve to a position past down and the hitch will float up and down. Like if using a scraper blade it would move up and down by its weight and ground conditions. If you pull the pins in that type hitch you can have float without a float position valve. I have used the prince open center valves with float and its pretty handy. Use the one with load checks to keep the hitch from leaking off unless its leaking in the lift cylinder or hoses after valve.
