MJD, You could get several optional axles on the 350 but they were all the same diameter. On the Farmall, you could order a longer axle or you could order the tractor with heavy duty "cotton picker" axles. On this, the axle itself was the same but the axle housing was heavier and had flanges on the outer end to bolt to the bull gears or drop housings. This was the same rear axle housing used on the Farmall 350 High Clearance. On the International 350 you could order it with the Farmall type rear axles which made it a International 350 row crop/high clear. These were not the flanged housings as the International high/clear had the same wheels and crop clearance as a reguler Farmall whereas the Farmall high clear had the drop housings and taller front axle which gave it much more crop clearance. Hope this helps. The heavy duty housings are probably what you remember unless they had some special hardened axle that I don't know about.
