thanks a lot "36F30." i took your information about the high altitude and removed the spark plugs and rolled engine over to check. all 4 cylinders have the stepped pistons. 3/4 of piston head on left side has got a flat raised step of about 0.25" inch high and the last 1/4 of piston head on the right side is lower. definitely matches the "HA5" as high altitude with having the higher compression pistons to match. the f12 doesn't run yet as needs an ignition tune-up, but do i have to do anything with the timing on the F4 magneto cause of the high compression pistons? keep the timing adjustment lever on the retard side? by the way i learned quite a bit and many thanks for your help.
