It is a very common addition after the tractor was purchased. Possible dealer install if it is a M&W pump. or a retrofit of later components if it is IH.
It ads only the value of a live hydraulic pump (considerable for a tractor in use), but not much if anything as a collector tractor.
If it is an M&W it could be worth good money on Ebay if you decide to remove it and the power steering to make the tractor original.
Good early modifications are usually looked upon as acceptable by judges at shows, but not always.
If it is an IH pump, taking it off and replacing it with a distributor drive houlsing and front cover with the correct older mount holes would be challenging. Jim

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
