You said you have a 1950 A. I am guessing that you either have the year wrong or it is a Super AV. The follwing information is on the Super A. Lets start with the simple stuff. If possible check the pressure of the system. When the hyd. are used the system should have 1100 - 1500 psi. when at rest the system should have 15 - 40 psi. If you have pressure and the system will not lift this could be a sign of something binding the rocker shaft or scored rockershaft bearings. If you do not have pressure then check for oil level and oil leaks or a faulty pump. If you only drained out a qt. of oil your system may very well have a leak. If you do not see a leak then check your engine oil and see if you have hyd. oil mixed with it. If you do then the seal on the pump is leaking. This is kind of common and takes less than $20.00 bucks and 1 hr. fix. After this it gets a little complicated. good luck
