Thats a IH part # 59516 DE grill and the reason there's more SMTA type grills around than tractors. Grill was sold as a replacement part for M tractors that used bolts to mount grill on up, and SM tractors. Look at all parts books for M.SM,SMTA dated middle 1954 and after and thats the grill listed. Unless there was a 59516 DD grill left in the IH parts system the late grill is What you got to replace a grill on say a 1948 M in say 1955. Don't know if the farmall emblem mounting holes were already drilled or added if putting grill on a M tractor.
There was a serial # break on SW6 tractors, ones with frame rails used the same hood T/A or not. 6 grills don't have the big opening at the bottom.
