With digital technology today, it costs nothing to take a bunch of pictures of everything as you are doing it - if you do not remember where something goes. And if you have an old cookie pan with a 1/2 inch lip they are great to work in when something decides to try and roll away. Just make sure it is a pan your significant other was never planning on using again.
Priority one is getting the thing clean. There are gallon cans of parts cleaners that you can buy at a FLAPS. Sometime is may take multiple cleanings. It took me four times this fall to finally get my Super C carb cleaned up where it would run without the chock being pulled out...
Be patient and make sure everything goes back together how it came apart. If you have a buddy who has done similar work before it is a good excuse to invite them over for a cold one.
