The clutch pedal needs to move about 1.5 inches before it feels pressure. (Movable by hand) about one to one and an eighth at the pedal rest. They are in a position such that the operator is pushing forward at an angle. Legs tend to release in a way that causes the clutch to come out faster than desired. Couple those with a clutch system that has very little cushion on the engage point, and they are jerky. Practice will help, and use will soften it some, as the components smooth up some.
