Just to clear a few things up. In high range, forward, there is less chance of wear as the power is not being pushed through the Sprag Clutch(one way clutch). In high, the power goes through a multiple plate clutch which is hydraulically actuated, and then through a constant mesh gear to the speed transmission. In low, it travels through the sprag clutch to a constant mesh gear, to the trans. The clutch plates in low range (TA) are only to provide engine braking, not transmit power. It is best to snap the lever through whenever changing ranges, and if it ever fails it is quite safe to operate in high range as long as you need to. If you need to replace it ever, put in the newer "mechanical diode" type from CaseIH, nearly bullet proof.Regards, Redfan.
