1939's & 40's used the Dzues fasteners. 1941 started the use of the "J" hook.
The grills are different and the mountings the grill attaches to are different. With enough time and work anything can be made to fit on anything, but '39 & '40 grills & hoods are more rare than later parts. I would think that you could get later parts cheaper and easier than the earlier ones. If anybody needs a '39 or '40 grill, I bet you could sell it and buy a later model grill for less money.
