I have disassembled my F-4 mag to replace the coil and condenser.
While I was careful to avoid disturbing any set-ups, I want to be sure the distributor gear is still correctly positioned vs. the drive gear before final assembly. If I have moved anything then the mag timing will be out.
(This is not the timing of the mag to the engine which I can do, but the 'internal' timing in the mag itself).
The mag overhaul manual I have says to use the dot punched on the gear for timing. I have found that dot, but what do I time it to?
A close inspection of the drive gear (the smaller one coupled to the drive shaft) shows two teeth are filed back. The distributor gear tooth next to the punch mark sits nicely between the filed teeth.
Is this correct?
I haven't been able to take a clear photo of this and the manual is blank regarding this so I am working on best guess work.
