Best thing to do in my opinion is first to narrow down where the slack is, first turn the wheel and look at the U joint, then if that is tight look at where the shaft goes into the gearbox, etc. My H had a lot of slop when I got it and what I found was that the worm gear inside the gear housing was moving back and forth. I took the large pipe cap off the front of the gearbox and found a large washer that fit between the end of the worm gear and the inside of the cap. I filled the box with grease, put the washer on and screwed the cap back on. It now has virtually no play, although it requires slightly more effort to turn the steering wheel. The first time I put the pipe cap on I didn't get it tight enough and it fell of when I was pulling a load of gravel. I knew when I completely lost steering all of a sudden. After that I tightened it with the 24" crescent wrench and it has stayed on since. Zach
