Quite often a driver can apply the brake to the wheel that is slipping which will transfer all power to the wheel that does have traction. This method will usually get you off of the ice or maybe out of a mud hole, but you sure wouldn't want to do that while plowing so that you could make it to the other end of the field. Sometimes this method does not work at all, because neither wheel has sufficient traction.
