Static time it...Bring #1 up to tdc. There should be 3 total marks on the front pulley. Two are very close together, and another mark is off on its own. Ignore the one off on its own. It's for greasing the pilot bearing. Line the timing pointer up with the second of the two marks that are close together. Point your rotor so it's firing at #1 on the dist cap. Put your cap back on, and leave your dist loose. Turn on the ignition switch. Take a test light and hook one end to ground and one end to the terminal on the of the side of the distributor. Turn your dist body in the direction of the rotor rotation so that the test light just blinks out. Now turn the rotor body in the opposite direction, against the rotor rotation, to where the test light just blinks on. Lock down the distributor...Static timed.
