sometimes if the starter gear and or flywheel gear is worn, it can cause a lockup. see if the engine is free, if not take the starter loose and see if it is free(we all hope so) if so, and all is OK with the starter, bolt it back up a little loose. but only leave it like that until you fix it, or you will crack the housing.
I had a super c go BANG once. the ignition rotor broke and threw it out of time.
