i didn't say nickle sized chip. I specifically said discreet components in tip packages. btdt.. can be done.. details are left to the students as an exercise. I've built many things like this over the years.
I also did not say high amp. I specifically mentioned the wattage rating.. 90-100
vibration is not an issue.. you can sufficientlu pot or shock mount a pc board.. same with heat. design the heatsink for the wattage in use and go. the unit can be placed in an area away from hot engine parts... if absolutely needed a milli-amp drawing 1.5" muffin fan can be added... again.. no biggie. tech is here.. and it's nothing new.. it's routine more than anything..
all that said.. I agree.. it's too much to go thru for what is being done.
most -good- genny shops can rebuild your 6v genny as 12v. in some cases you can get an existing 12v genny that uses the same or a similar case as the 6v. plus there are specialty companies that will gut your old genny and install custom guts for an alternator with all the same looking hookups so it looks correct.
again.. I wouldn't do that either.
my 6v machines run good when maintained.
i have a ford 950 that is on 12v using a 01 series gen from a diesel. same looking genny.. same brackets... different but same looking reg.. same wireing. looks stock unless you count the battery tops or inspect the genny and find the vents.
