If it was converted to 12 volts but you kept the 6 volt starter, Bob M and I had opinions on this a good while back, BUT WE BOTH AGREED ON EITHER BEING A GOOD THING TO DO.
I'd EITHER use lighter gauge, say No 4, battery cables ORRRRRRRR use a lighter duty smaller CCA battery SO AS TO DROP A BIT OF VOLTAGE TO REDUCE SUCH A RAPID HIGH TORQUE KICK IN TO PROTECT THE STARTER DRIVE AND/OR FLYWHEELT RING TEETH. Even a smaller battery or 4 gauge cables will still crank a little C plenty fast enough when 12 is applied to a 6 volt starter.
When you apply 12 volts to a 6 volt stater sure she spins good n fast (and Ive done it n never had any problems) but it can be a bit tough on "some" types of starter drives. The use of a lighter less CCA battery or smaller gauge cables can lessen that problem.
Usually for 6 volt with 6 volt batteries I recommend 0 or 00 gauge cables TO LESSEN VOLTAGE DROP but 12 votls on a 6 volt starter is a bit different. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTT if the starter was converetd to 12 volts, then Id go ahead and opt for say 1 gauge cables on a C, bigger if an M.
