there is a little less friction and lubricant viscosity in play with the pedal down, thus the tractor engine should have an easier time. If the cub has a graphite based throwout bearing, it could be gone with metal on metal in the housing. If it makes noise it probably is worn. If the Throw out bearing is a Ball style, it or the fork could be contacting the clutch Pressure plate. Again noise would be usually an indicator. The ball bearing could be seized and wearing the fingers. If it were mine I would adjust the clutch first (one and 1/2 inch travel befor it feels harder with hand pressure. If adjustment dis nothing, or it was close to correct already, I would split it to see what is going on. Jim
