Harold, In a perfect world and for the application the new caps are designed for you are correct. The cap is vented so the fuel tank can empty due to gravity flow. The caution I believe is for the rare times that the cap for some reason would become clogged and pressure would build up in the tank. I was using a Massey Fergerson tractor one time when that was the case and the tractor stopped running. In fact the pressure had built up to the point the fuel was being forced out of the tank where the upper and lower tank halves were seamed together. The new caps are an attempt to limit liability I'm sure in case of an accident and it is always safer to open a fuel cap slowly anyhow, Hal.
