There were a couple Hs that sold on sales not far from me a couple weeks ago. One looked like it had sat outside most of it life, tires were about gone but tractor ran good - brought $775. The other had good paint (repainted a few yrs ago), good tires, ran good but owner said had a noise in one gear in the tranny- brought $850. I my mind the later tractor was the better deal.
I;d say the H you described is worth somewhere in the $250 -$300 range. Really depends on what is wrong with the tractor. About 6-7 yrs ago I bought a M from a friend who was getting out of farming. Tractor had sit in the back corner of his shed for 10-12 yrs without being run. Tires were less than 40%, tractor was covered with dust & bird crap to the point you couldn't hardly tell it was red though they had repainted it & then backed it into the corner, and motor was stuck. I really didn't want the tractor but gave him $500 for it. I brought it home & washed it & to my surprise the paint was still good except a couple spots. I replaced one sleeve, honed the others, put new rings in it & reused the original 4" fircrater pistons. Head was cracked beyond repair so found a good head for $75 & slapped a new head gasket & head on. Tractor runs like a top and we use it unloading bins . I've got less than $750 in the old gal
