The german diesel d310 or d358 are hard to start in any weather. You have to use the priming feature to start these engines. Shut the throttle completely down and pull the shut off three quaters of the way out, till it just touches the spring loaded button on the side injector pump. Then start cranking the engine over till she fires. After she fires for 15 to 30 seconds let go of the shut off. and give her a little throttle.(be sure to push shut off in fully) We have a IH826 with the D358 diesel motor and a IH756 with the D310 motor. Both are good units for power and fuel economy. The 756 was a gasser that need an rebuild, but we replacad the motor with the D310 german diesel from a IH715 combine two year ago. This was a big job, but were glad we did it and it made it into good tractor. If you look at a IH584 or 684 they have this same priming feature for starting. But these german engines do not start well in the cold weather. In the winter they need a block heater. Stay away from using ether its only hard on the engine.
