Hi soybeanjoe: Thanks 4 the nitty gritty details. 1953 or 1954 does not really make a bit of difference, most likely. The Super M-TA which followed ( or more likely was already being build on a different production line, was the "big deal." The SMD was history fairly quick. A few more years saw MANY changes mostly for the better and lots and lots more power and more gears to choose from plus hydraulics ports all around most tractors.. The SMD was the last of the basic Farmall tractor... With that said, I'd really like to have a good running one over the rest of them.. I got appointed to drive ours for almost every job for 6 full years. I could still like driving one again.. ag. ret. By the way, I just now remember something about the gas and diesel sharing the same serial number "string." Gotta check that info out.? Makes fewer diesels since gas was selling more at that time.. Not a seperate serial numbers for each?
