oliver, Could be that the inlet on the cut-off valve in the tank might be partially stopped up! Those valves have a small pipe that sticks up off the bottom to keep water and crud from getting into the fuel filters, but after 50 yrs of life those tanks have sweated and crud and dirt and rust flakes have accumulated in the tank, You might need to flush out the tank first and see if that is the problem. To Check break loose the fuel line just in front of the filters, blow compressed air back into the tank, reattach the line and run the engine, see if that fixes the problem. If it does for a little while, or at least till it stoppes back up....then the tank and the crud in it is the problem. The fix is a tank cleaning and a fine screen afixed to the inlet pipe of the cut-off valve. I can tell you about a nice premade screen you can get for it, Hollar if you like 512-577-3837.
