I used 7/32 E-7014 and ground the ends of the pieces until there was a 3/4 inch long by 1/4" thick connection remaining. Then used DCSP with 140 amps, to make small hot passes 1/2" at a time on opposite sides to keep it straight. between passes I used a sharp chipping hammer to whale it till it was peened to relieve stress. Then put on the next pass and peened. Repeated until a concave fillet was at the surface. then peened and put it on. Chase the threads on the abused ball joint. A thread file, or die will chase them and save the part. Jim
