If the ignition switch was left on with it on the charger, the coil overheated and is toast. The points open and close the circuit to the coil (about 40% of the time they are closed) thus when running the coil gets substantial time off between firing. When left on, the tractor is also not blowing air past it, and it is on all the time.
I would put a big screw driver behind the rotor, and pry it off. If it comes, cool if it breaks it is being replaced. Jim
