Unless you plan on blowing out miles and miles of road, you are not going to "hurt" the TA by running in reverse.
Even with the TA engaged, reverse might not be slow enough for blowing heavy snow.
Dad says that back in the 60's they ran ONE tire chain on the blower tractor, so one wheel would spin and the other could be used to "inch" the blower into the snow by tapping the brake.
Of course that trick only works if the ground's frozen. If not you're digging a hole to China, and probably going to get stuck.
