Well Glenster I hate to admit it, but I went and looked at this thing not knowing what to expect. Sitting outside covered with junk, not running but not stuck, asked what he wanted for it thinking I really did not need another tractor since I have 3 H's that need to be redone.
So for $250 I brought it home ; )
First thing I dragged it the shop, not easy with no steering to speak of, bought a battery and made new cables, cranked it over a few times, which made me smile.
Inside the gas tank was full of crud and rust, pulled the carb and cleaned the rust and crud out. by passed the gas tank and let the fuel pump suck gas from a gas can, got good flow.
Tried to start it, no go, pulled the cap off and it was full of rust and points rusted shut. Got new parts and tried to start it again. no go, got spark but no fuel. electric shut off valve on the carb was not working, took a while but finally figured out the key switch was bad.
Got it running and it sounds good and does not smoke, now in the process of fixing lots of hydraulic leaks.
