A few days ago I posted about a leaking steering pump on a 1086. Well I found the problem today and it was a simple fix. I had put the short rubber sleeve in it and it needed the long one. There are two different lengths to choose from depending on what pump the tractor has in it. When I took it apart the first time I took the old rubber sleeve to the dealer for a comparison. What I didn't realize was the old sleeve I had was a long one that had compressed down to the length of a new short one. The proper sleeve should be about 1/4 inch longer than the center band on the pump so it can compress tight when the end bolts are tightened up. If the bolts are torqued just a bit too much it compresses the sleeve a bit much and the steering wheel gets hard to turn. The sleeve I first put in there was the same length as the center band so there was no extra length for compression. If you've never worked on one you probably don't have a clue what I'm talking about LOL!
Second problem that came up was the clutch went to the floor and stayed there and the tractor wouldn't stop. I'd replaced the seals in the clutch booster and I thought I'd screwed something up in the booster. Well I did screw something up but it was in the linkage above the booster. It just plain came apart. Five minutes put it back together the RIGHT way. Just thought I'd post a follow up.Jim
