Thanks to:jdemaris,John T,Bob, and the rest who helped me get this 12v conversion done. The rest of this is for the Archives.
This is a 12v conversion on a 1955 Farmall 300. The alternator is a Hitachi 14231 purchased from the local auto parts store for $55.30 + $10. core. Diode is a part #276-1143 purchased at Radio Shack for $1.69 for 2. White strip on diode goes towards the alternator. I did drill out the metric holes in the alternator and the original bracket on the 300 to 3/8", and used 3/8" all thread rod.
