What service on the oil pump? Sand the pot metal cover plate flat and replace the gasket I hope. When I service one, I make a steel plate that fits across the area where the cover warps and the gasket blows out. So far it works.
As for the bolts, Note that there are two different lengths. Center front and back take a short bolt (don't ask how I know), and the ones on either side of center at the front and back take the longer ones as they go thru a pot metal piece and thread into the block.
Never noticed any real problem getting to the front bolts, sure it's close but put em back in with the same wrench you took em out with.
