As the others indicate there is no connection between the Magneto and the charging system. Thus if the battery is not being charged the generator is not charging. We need to know if it has a real voltage regulator or a cutout relay system. If the light switch has 4 positions LHDB it probably had a cutout system on it originally. If it has a 3 position light Switch, it probably has a voltage regulator. (but who knows what has been modified.
If there are 4 terminals on the Voltage regulator looking device, it is a Regulator.
