One thing the posters here on the forums talked about was the external resistor bypass for starting. Anyone who uses a tractor in cold areas should never used the internal ballasted coils. You will never get as hot a spark as when you bypass the resistance at starting.
The 300u I just bought would not fire until I ran a jumper past the ballast resister. Started in one pulse on the starter then. This was at 0 C or 32 F.
