Doubt there's a problem with the wires. Rather moisture from your wiping activity (or dew) coating the wires created a temporary conductive path from a spark plug terminal, then through you then on to ground.
You might try this: Run the tractor in absolute pitch darkness and observe the plug wires (give your eyes a few minutes to acclimate). If you see any blue or yellowish discharge (glow) on the plug wires the insulation has broken down. The wires should be replaced. Otherwise the wires are fine.
Tip: Shut down the engine when working around the ignition! I know mechanics who have suffered broken arms, elbows, etc from being "bit" by ignition and the involuntary reflex causing their arms to snap back and hit stuff.
