The measurement from the mating surface of the housing casting (where it attaches to the tractor) to friction surface down in its depths is important. The stack of the inner disk, the outer disk, and the expander (when placed all together with the expander fully collapsed) is also measured. The purpose is to measure the total difference between the tractor friction surface and the housing friction surface then subtract the thickness of the stack. The amount of clearance should be about .050". If it is dramatically more than this the linkages will need to pull so far that they loose effective angle. The gap increases when the tractor surface the expander surface, and the housing surface wear during use. To reduce excessive clearance, the housing is machined to make this wear disappear, returning it to near new condition. Readjustment of the pull rods will be needed. Jim
