I have not done an A but have done similar and agree with what Rich is saying. I still split mine at the trans and then used a mirror at the inspection cover and a patient helper to move the rear end. We managed to get the input shaft back thru the center of the clutch and into the bushing. Took a little trial and error but we got it done with a few attempts. What I am trying to remember is if this is the point where you have to be careful not to hit the clutch pedal while the shaft is out to avoid getting the clutch off center. Somebody will have to clarify that for you as the brain is not working on this end, but I think it is.
