Greg, Don't have my manual in front of me, but if memory serves, the timing mark is not a hole, but rather a notch (or two) on the circumference of the rear flange of the crankshaft pulley. If there is one notch, that indicates TDC. If there are 2, I believe the second one to line up in normal rotation is TDC. As for the mag, I can't comment on the lack of spark, but the jumpy motion of the rotor just means that the impulse coupling is working as it should. Once the engine is up and running, the impulse coupling kicks out and the circular motion of the rotor is smooth. Good luck. Smitholm
