My understanding is that when you push clutch peddle with foot that disengages clutch. Taking foot off clutch peddle engages clutch. That being said you disengage clutch to start tractor(no load on engine). Engine runs with no load. Now when you engage clutch with trans in neutral does engine lug down and die? If yes trans. is locked in 2 gears. Shifting lever is worn. Take shifting tower off, look at shifting rails and put all rails in neutral with big screwdriver. If engine lugs and dies after you put trans in a gear than you could have a piece of a bearing or other debrei(sp?) stuck in 2 gears(BTDT). Is also possible frozen water intrans. Have you removed drain plug to see if oil runs out. If oil drains out no frozen water. in trans. Post back what you find or if you have more questions. Hopes this helps. Armand
