Bob - Static iming for the Super M is top dead center. TDC designated by a notch in the rear flange of the crank (fan belt) pulley and a pointer on the timing gear case. (If there's two notches close together on the pulley, TDC is the first notch in the direction of pulley rotation.) Procedure: Mark the #1 cylinder tower location on the side of the distributor with a magic marker or something. Remove the distributor cap and turn the engine until rotor is close to mark you made above. Now turn the engine until the TDC mark on the fan pulley is at the pointer. Now loosen the distributor clamp bolt, turn on the ignition switch and watch the ammeter. Slowly turn the distributor one way then the other and note the point the ammeter changes from discharge to 0 and back again (a helper or a mirror is handy here...). The spot where the ammeter changes will be TDC. Tighten the distributor clamp bolt with the distributor at this point. If you have a timing light ttiming is a lot easier: Simply hook the timing light to the #1 cylinder. Then unclamp and turn the distributor until the TDC mark aligns with the pointer with the engine running at slow idle. Bob M
