I'm working on a 1940 H I bought last fall. I pulled the gas tank off to clean it, and I have a couple questions. 1. What holds the 3 studs in place that fastens the tank to the tractor? Two of them began turning when I tries to loosen the nuts. I ended up splitting the nuts with a cut off wheel to get them off. I'm wondering what holds them in place, or how I can secure them when putting the tank back on.
2. Does this tank have a baffle in it, or does it not go out all the way to the pointed end? In attempting to look in the filler hole, it appears that there is something in there. Plus, when I took the tank off, it was a lot heavier than similar sized tanks from other tractors.
This is the first Farmall I have worked on, so I would appreciate any help you guys can offer. I plan to get a parts book, but have not yet done so.
