I think, like any 30-40 year old baler the main thing is to look for wear and abuse. Worn knotter parts are a real problem for tying. I'd check the metal areas that contact the hay - if hay has been left in it and gets wet it rots the metal pretty quickly. I'd ask question if possible about the last time it was used. I run a model 46 which was made in the 60's and it still works well. Older balers seem to be either still in good shape or they are junk - nothing in between. Not sure a out parts but probably lots of parts in junk yards. I don't know about custom vs standard but they were available with a thower so maybe thats the differnce.
