It's tough to understand what you mean, because IH placed gauges near the steering shaft on both the SMTA and SW6TA, and the untrained eye could say that the shaft "comes through the hood" on both tractors.
All Super M's have the steering shaft coming straight horizontally across the top of the gas tank. The steering wheel is almost straight up and down.
All Super W6 & W6TA's have a steering column more like a car. The wheel is at about a 45 degree angle to the ground, and comes up from underneath the gas tank.
It is entirely possible that someone put the wrong decals on your tractor. Years ago, the selection of decals was not as good as it is now. You'd have a tough time finding decals for a rare tractor like a Super W6TA. Rather than having no decals at all, or paying to have custom decals made, you'd use the closest decals you could find. In the case of a SW6TA, that would be Farmall Super M or even Super MTA decals.

I tried to use an easy out but it wasn't budging and I didn't want t
