Could be your points & condensor. I had a similar problem with my M. It didn't start as hard as yours sounds, but it started progressivly running worse and worse. I had free flowing fuel, put new plugs, wires, cap & rotor on, and nothing I did fixed it. I finally rebuilt the carb, and it didn't make a difference. So I pulled the cap back off and replaced the points and condensor, fired it up and it purred like a kitten.
